While her sudden departure leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her, her radiant memory continues to shine brightly through the countless lives she touched with her natural kindness and compassion.
Born on June 4, 1999, in Aurora, Illinois, Amanda was the cherished daughter of John and Barbara Callahan. From her earliest years, she embraced the world with a vibrant curiosity, eagerly diving into diverse interests including softball, dance, piano, and guitar. Amanda grew up attending Yorkville High School, where she lifted her voice as an active member of the school choir. Her sharp intellect and desire to understand the complexities of life later led her to study neuroscience at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
While her academic pursuits were impressive, Amanda’s truest, deepest joy lay in her profound love for animals. This passion beautifully aligned with her work at Dogtopia, where she spent her days surrounded by canine companions and fellow animal lovers. Her coworkers and friends recall her absolute happiness on the job, noting that she brought a rare warmth, patience, and dedication to every animal in her care.
Outside of her professional and academic life, Amanda embraced her unique interests wholeheartedly. She loved diving into horror movies, reading captivating books, attending live concerts, playing video games, and thrifting for the perfect bargain. Above all, she dedicated her heart to caring for her beloved pet family, including her dogs, Ryder and Dogmeat, and her cats, Rukia, Toph, and 2B. Amanda was defined by her vibrant personality, her quick wit, and a refreshing authenticity. She lived unapologetically as herself, naturally inspiring everyone around her to do the same.
Even in her passing, Amanda’s profound generosity endured. As an organ donor, she selflessly gave the ultimate gift of life to others, cementing a legacy of hope, healing, and grace that perfectly mirrors the compassionate spirit she embodied every day.
Amanda’s memory will be forever protected and cherished by her surviving loved ones, including her parents, Barbara and John Callahan; her brother and sister-in-law, Jake and Leah Callahan; her niece, Emma Callahan; and her longtime partner, Chris Purvis. She also leaves behind a wide, loving circle of extended family members, lifelong friends, and colleagues. She was preceded in welcoming eternity by her grandmother, Kazuko Callahan, and her grandfather, Don Carlson.
A formal remembrance gathering will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Majestic Highlands Homestead in Batavia, Illinois.
