The Yarmouth, Nova Scotia community is mourning the unexpected loss of Sydni MacKinnon, a devoted Registered Nurse, beloved daughter, sister, partner, and friend, who passed away on June 7, 2026, at the age of 27.
Born in Yarmouth on May 12, 1999, Sydni was the cherished daughter of Gerard and Robin (Everest) MacKinnon. Her passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of her family, friends, coworkers, and the many patients whose lives she touched through her work and compassion.
Known for her radiant smile and caring nature, Sydni was often described as a ray of light. Her warmth, kindness, and positive spirit made an impact wherever she went. Whether she was caring for patients, spending time with loved ones, or pursuing her passions, she approached life with enthusiasm, grace, and genuine compassion.
Sydni found her calling in nursing and proudly served as a Registered Nurse at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Her dedication to helping others earned her the admiration of colleagues and the gratitude of countless patients and families. She was respected not only for her professional skills but also for her ability to provide comfort, understanding, and kindness during difficult moments.

Outside of her career, Sydni was a talented and accomplished dancer. She began dancing with Kidzact at a young age and quickly developed a passion for the art. Through years of hard work and dedication, she earned multiple dance scholarships and created lasting friendships within the dance community. Her love of dance reflected the same determination and joy that characterized every aspect of her life.
Family was at the center of Sydni’s world. She shared an exceptionally close bond with her sister, Callie MacKinnon, who was not only her sister but also her best friend. Together they created a lifetime of treasured memories filled with laughter, support, and unconditional love.
She also shared a special relationship with her parents. Sydni treasured her daily conversations and visits with her father, Gerard, whose support and encouragement were constants throughout her life. Likewise, she deeply admired her mother, Robin, whose strength, wisdom, and compassion served as a guiding influence and inspiration.
Sydni found happiness and comfort in the love she shared with her boyfriend, Logan Ryer. Their relationship was built on mutual support, friendship, and devotion, and she greatly valued the life they shared together.
She also enjoyed spending time with her grandparents, extended family, and many dear friends. Sydni’s love extended to her beloved cats, Otis and Milo, who brought her immense joy and companionship.
Sydni MacKinnon will be forever remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for others. Though her life was far too short, her impact was profound and enduring. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Yarmouth Wesleyan Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Let Your Light Shine – Jevin Link Society in her memory.
